Open house last for season

DURHAM —  The Durham Historical Society will hold its last open day for the summer at the Old Town Hall/Union Church from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.

Built in 1835 through the combined efforts of the Baptist, Methodist and Congregationalists, the historic building houses the Durham Historical Society and artifacts. The Congregationalist Church held services here from 1947 until 1951. The building also served as the Town Office from 1924 to 1986.

VFW post members to meet

LEWISTON —   The Longley-Dionne Post 9150, VFW, will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Lewiston Armory, Central Avenue. All officers and members are encouraged to attend.

Country music awards show

MECHANIC FALLS —   The Down East Country Music Association’s 33rd annual awards show will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Silver Spur, Route 121.

A food concession will be open and there will be 50/50 drawing raffles. For more information, call Jackie at 793-8884.

Free clothing for kids, men and women

LITCHFIELD —   The Litchfield Academy Thrift Shop will offer free clothing, one day only, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 17. The academy is located beside the Libby Tozier School on the corner of Route 197 and the Academy Road. Contact Rayna at 582-4098 for more information.

Litchfield’s Old Town House Museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21. The museum features exhibits reflecting Litchfield’s historic past, including farming, school, a general store and post office and rooms of a home.

Tour guides will discuss the artifacts and how they were used. The event is free and donations will be accepted by the Historical Society of Litchfield. Contact Rayna at 582-4098 for more information.
