1941 – 2013
PORTLAND — Mary Ellen Taylor Scribner, 72, of South Portland and Oquossoc, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
She was born in Winthrop, Mass., on July 16, 1941, the daughter of Oscar M. “Skid” and G. June (Freeman) Taylor. She graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1959, and the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1964, receiving her master’s degree in library sciences.
Mary Ellen worked as a school librarian for many years, until her retirement in 1999 and was very proud that she was instrumental in bringing the computer age to the local schools.
She was married to David Scribner in Frye on April 21, 1962, who survives her of South Portland. Other survivors include her daughter, Lisa Scribner and husband, Stephen Sturtevant, of Mason, Ohio; granddaughter, Chelsea Sturtevant of Mason, Ohio; and several cousins.
