TOPSHAM — Merrymeeting Adult Education will offer “Creating as Meditation in Action,” a five-week class taught by Rebekah Younger at Mt. Ararat Middle School from 6 to 8 p.m., starting Wednesday, Sept. 18. Register before Sept. 8.
The course is designed for people who are interested in learning how meditation can aid them in creating a genuine expression in any medium, whether music, visual arts, writing, gardening, etc. or just creating a meaningful life. This class is an introduction to Shambhala Art through exercises, discussion and meditation instruction. Meditation practice can synchronize the mind and body, cultivating a spacious mind that sees things as they are, making a natural flow of creativity and clear expression possible.
The Shambhala Art Program is based on the teachings of Tibetan Buddhist meditation master, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, as found in his book, “True Perception.” He was a calligrapher, photographer, poet, film maker and Ikebana master whose teachings were influential in the work of Allen Ginsburg, Meredith Monk, Alice Walker, David Bowie and Joni Mitchell, among others.
The course fee is $56. Students are encouraged to purchase the text, “True Perception.” For more information, contact Rebekah Younger at [email protected] or 443-8649. Learn more about Shambhala Art at www.shambhalaart.org and the instructor at www.rebekahyounger.com
