LEWISTON — Lewiston Adult Education will offer a Welding Certification program starting Wednesday, Sept. 4. This program is comprised of the Welding I and Welding II courses, and is designed for members of the community who are serious about pursuing a career as a welder.

Welding I covers the basics of welding theory and proper safety measures. Participants will get hands-on experience with electrodes, learning the different types, their selection requirements and how to apply them correctly. Participants in this course will begin welding with stick electrodes in a flat position and progress to welding vertically with E6011 and E7018 type electrodes. Welding I starts Sept. 4 and meets every Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:30 for 15 weeks.

Welding II will move into industrial applications such as MIG and TIG welding and end with an in-depth review of flux-cored welding. Welding II starts Sept. 5 and meets every Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 for 15 weeks.

A certificate of completion will be issued to a student who completes both Welding I and Welding II. These courses were designed to complement one another so that a student may take only one at a time, or take both courses simultaneously. Students considering a career in welding are strongly encouraged to enroll in both courses to gain maximum experience to various forms of welding and to accumulate the greatest number of lab-work hours possible.
