1924 – 2013
AUBURN — Anne Elizabeth (Slamin) Edwards went peacefully to her Heaven on Tuesday, Aug. 20, to be with her mother. She passed away due to a chronic heart condition. Anne was the wife of Burleigh L. Edwards, having been joined together for 67 years.
She was born in Boston, Mass., on Nov. 7, 1924, the daughter of the late Cornelius and Evelyn (Norton) Slamin. She moved to Belmont, Mass., in the early 1930s where she attended local schools and was a graduate of Belmont High School, Class of 1942.
She met her Burleigh through a neighbor when he was attending Burdett College. Upon his return from the Army in January 1946, they were married on May 26. They bought a Cape Cod bungalow on a seaside location with a spit of land in Fairhaven, Mass., known as Sconticut Neck. They moved back to Maine in 2002.
Anne will always be remembered for her love of classical music and operas, traveling — which includes 20 cruises, dancing and spending time on the beach.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Burleigh Edwards, of Auburn; and numerous cousins that are spread out all over the country. She was happy to renew a wonderful closeness with one of her cousins, retired working Superior Court judge, his honor Robert Clifford. She also leaves behind a cousin to her husband, Gloria (Winton) Hall and her husband, Quentin Hall. They have been so helpful in so many ways.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Kim Walsh and caregivers at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice. You are invited to share your thoughts, condolences and fond memories of Anne by visiting her guest book at www.thefortingroupauburn.com.
