1927 – 2013
WEST GARDINER — James Lewis Glazier, 85, passed away quietly at his home in West Gardiner on Monday, Aug. 26.
Born on Sept. 28, 1927, in Leverett, Mass., Jim served his country from 1945-1946 as a member of the U.S. Navy. He attended the University of Massachusetts-Stockbridge, earning an associate’s degree in Pomology in 1948.
Jim began his working career as a research assistant with the University of Massachusetts, before founding Roaring Brook Nurseries in Leverett, Mass., in 1956. He also worked for Central Chemical Company as general manager of sales beginning in 1967, before resigning in 1981 to concentrate on his own business. In 1976, he relocated his family and business operations to Wales. He retired in 1991 to travel and enjoy time between homes in Maine and in Florida.
In addition to love of family and friends, Jim loved the Red Sox, Patriots, NASCAR and anything to do with cars. He loved the beaches of Florida and Maine, especially Goose Rocks Beach.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Dorothy Owen; son, James “JR” Glazier and wife, Kristen, of Wales; daughters, Deborah Randall and her husband, Joel, of Strafford, N.H., and Linda Nall and husband, Jim, of Columbia, S.C.; stepdaughters, Linda Archambault (Tom) of Bangor, Patricia Rohan (Larry) of Whidbey Island, Wash., and Jodi Bauer (Keith) of Crested Butte, Colo.; his grandsons, Leonard Zimnowski and his wife, Ashley, of Huntsville, Ala., and Jared Glazier of Wales; granddaughter, Lindsay Glazier of Wales; and great-granddaughters, Olivia and Ila Zimnowski.
