WEST PARIS — First Universalist Church of West Paris worship services for September have been announced.

Services will continue every Sunday until June. They are presented with a combination of worship service committee members and guest speakers. All are welcome to attend; 9 a.m. services are followed by refreshments. 

The Joe Perham memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the church with catered refreshments following the service. The Joyce Lamb memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.

Sept. 8: The Rev. Fayre Stephenson will hold a Water Communion, a service of ingathering. Those attending will bring a small amount of water from a place that is special to them. During the service, one by one, they will pour the water into a large bowl and tell why the water is special.

A graduate of Harvard Divinity School, Stephenson most recently served for many years as program director of the Unitarian Universalist Camp and Conference Center at Ferry Beach in Saco. Prior to moving to Maine, she served as minister of the Foxborough Universalist Church in Massachusetts where she was voted Minister Emerita. She is now a resident of Norway and leads services at the Norway and West Paris UU churches.

Sept. 15: The Rev. Sarah Shepley, “Passenger Seat: A Deepening of Faith through Loss,” based on her experience of loss this summer, the events leading up to and post reflection. Shepley is a regular guest interfaith minister at the First Universalist Church, she is also an artist and resides in the western hills.

Sept. 22: The Rev. Fayre Stephenson, “Proclaiming the UU Gospel.” Using the original definition of gospel, good news or glad tidings, she will explore how to be true to respect for other traditions and how to shout out the gospel of Unitarian Universalism.

Sept. 29: The Rev. Robert Sallies, “Spiritiuality: The Essence of Religion.” Sallies has led services for the church several times in the past. He was a publisher of the Norway Advertiser Democrat from 1959 to 1976. He has served Universalist Churches in Nottingham, N.H., South Paris and Westbrook. Sallies served as Northeast District executive of the UUA in Portland for seven years and as vice president of finance and treasurer of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Boston.

Since retirement, Dr. and Mrs. Sallies have spent winters in Anderson, S.C. and summers in Norway.
