SOUTH PARIS — Beverly Murphy Smith, 81, of South Paris, passed away at her home on Monday, Sept. 9, after a short battle with cancer. Beverly beat a different form of cancer 22 years ago.
Beverly was born in South Paris on Oct. 16, 1931. She graduated from Norway High School in 1949. Beverly was married to William G. Smith on Sept. 23, 1950; they were married for 48 years, before his death in 1998.
Beverly worked for 68 years of her life; she worked up until becoming ill in March 2013. Beverly began her career at the age of 13; her first job was at Barjo’s Restaurant. She also had a daycare for many years, where people knew her as “Auntie Bev.” After retiring from daycare, she went to work for C.N. Brown, finishing her career after more than 20 years in the accounts payable department.
Beverly enjoyed shopping and traveling, and loved her four children and four grandchildren.
Beverly is survived by her daughter, Dorene “Dodie” Hoyt and husband, Jeffry; daughter, Darlene Sessions and husband, Brian Barbour; son, Gregory “Bill” Smith; and daughter, Shari O’Connor and husband, Michael. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Greg Sessions, Garret Sessions, Cody O’Connor and Brynn O’Connor; sister, Madeline Pratt; brother, Edwin Murphy; cousin, Shirley LaFrance; nephews, Peter and Tom Roy; and many other very close and special family and friends.
Beverly was predeceased by her husband, William Smith; parents, Vira McAlister Murphy and Charles Murphy; sisters, Kathleen Burke, Doris Roy, Marguerite Richardson and Frances Kennagh; and brother, Dana Murphy.
