1919 – 2013
AUBURN — Ernest J. Mathon, 94, formerly of 282 Lisbon St., Lewiston, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
He was born in Lewiston, Sept. 11, 1919, son of the late Wilfred and Rose Fortin Mathon. He was educated in Lewiston schools and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
Ernest was married Feb. 3, 1940, to Bernadette Laflamme, who predeceased him Dec. 29, 2003.
He was employed for P & P Fuel Co. as a truck driver and later worked for Hahnel Brothers, retiring after 35 years with the company.
He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, the outdoors and his daily luncheon visits to Simones’ Hot Dog Stand.
He is survived by a daughter, Rita Mathon and partner, Richard, of Monmouth; two sons, Paul Raymond Mathon and wife, Marie Ange, of Mechanic Falls, and Roger Armand Mathon and wife, Carmen, of Lewiston; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
