DEAR SUN SPOTS: October is fire prevention month. On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the Poland Historical Society is hosting a program entitled “In the Beginning — Poland Fire & Rescue,” for a night of remembering and picture taking.
For a display in the new memorabilia barn we are seeking all those people involved with Poland’s original fire and rescue departments, ladies auxiliary and beano crew from the late 1960s to the early ’70s. Please bring any pictures you might have.
The program starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Historical Society. For more information contact me or Jim Walker, 998-4975.
Many thanks for your help. — Barbara Strout, Poland, 998-4388
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I live in the south of the Netherlands and volunteer at the U.S. Army base in Schinnen. Not far from my hometown lays the U.S. cemetery in Margraten where the remains of 8,301 U.S. soldiers are laid to rest. All of these graves and the names of the wall of missing are adopted by locals.
I adopted a grave belonging to one of our liberators, PFC Stanley V. Clark. I received his individual deceased personnel file, which contains some family information. His parents, George and Flore Clark, lived at 40 Union St. in Lewiston.
PFC Clark was born in 1924 and joined the 401st Glider Infantry Regiment. (I recently created a Facebook page of the 401 Glider Infantry Regiment, www.facebook.com/401stGIR.) This unit fought with the famous 502 and 506 Parachute Infantry Regiment (Band of Brothers) at Carentan, France. Operation Market Garden was his last battle, and he died on Oct. 9.
I would like to find out if there is still family alive and/or to tell people I am looking for them. And could you tell me if there is someone or a place where I can find more information about him and his family? I am trying to find as much information as possible so I will get a better picture of this hero.
At the moment I am in contact with the other families who adopted graves of his fallen comrades of his unit. We are trying to get a memorial for his unit/company at the place where they died. It is all a long process, but we certainly hope to find more and more information. — Nowy van Hedel, 28, [email protected] or [email protected], 0031630444866, Broensdel 46, Merkelbeek, 6447EC
ANSWER: Sun Spots knows of no source for personal information other than what surviving family or friends might supply.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Would you please add our center to the list of nonprofit organizations that could use fabric, yarn and other craft items?
We are Friends Together Peer Support and Recovery Center, 31 Park St., Livermore Falls (next to the fire station).
We have several members who work on making lap robes, muffs, dishcloths and a variety of crafts. We will be selling some items at our holiday bazaar in November. We also give lap robes to local nursing homes.
This is a large part of our activities and fundraising. Thank you. — Cynthia Hebert

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for posting the information that Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends upcoming barbecue and bottle drive will include a yard sale after all. However, there is apparently still some confusion about the dates.
It will be a one-day event only on Saturday, Oct. 5. The rain date will be Saturday, Oct. 12. Hopefully, this correction can run in time to clear up the confusion. Thank you so much as usual for all of your help. For any questions, call Norm Blais 207-650-8374. — [email protected]
