1970 – 2013

PORTLAND — Michael J. Paradis, 43, of Scarborough, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, after battling cancer.

He was born in Lewiston on Jan. 19, 1970, the son of Bertrand A. and Joyce A. (O’Donnell) Paradis. Mike attended schools in Lewiston and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1993. He made his career working in sales, most recently for Hanson Directory Services Inc., of Newton, Iowa, and previously for Anderson Merchandising out of Texas.

He met the love of his life, Heather (Maxner), when they were both freshmen at the University of Rhode Island. As life would have it, they parted ways while in college, but were profoundly reunited 16 years later. Heather and Mike were married in a beautiful ceremony at Echo Lake in Fayette on June 13, 2009.

A devoted husband and father, Mike was a generous, hard-working man who truly loved spending time with family and close friends. A hockey fan from the get-go thanks to his dad’s love for the same sport, he played for Lewiston High School while a student and just for fun in later years. Mike loved fishing, sporting events and most of all, he loved to entertain others. A kid at heart, all children loved “Uncle Mike,” including his nieces and nephews, who found his antics to be absolutely enthralling. Mike made life fun for everyone around him, and he believed wholeheartedly in living life to its fullest and enjoying every moment. Mike created a wealth of fond memories that everyone who knew and loved him will never forget.

Predeceased by his father, Mike is survived by his loving wife, Heather; his son, Braden, and stepdaughter, Caroline; his mother, Joyce Paradis and husband, Scott Neely, of Yarmouth; a sister, Suzanne Murch and husband, Stacy, of Bolton, Mass.; his brother, William “Bill” and wife, Sarah (Clark), of Portland; a sister-in-law, Megan (Maxner) Schaiberger and husband, Ryan, of Swamscott, Mass.; five beloved nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and close friends.
