McLaughlin clean-up day

PARIS — Fall Clean-up Day has been scheduled at the McLaughlin Garden on Thursday, Nov. 7, beginning at 9 a.m.

Horticultural Director Kristin Perry will lead efforts to prepare the garden for winter. If a volunteer prefers indoor work, or if the weather is uncooperative, there are indoor jobs, too, including tasks in the barn.

Spend the day or a few hours, every little bit helps. Lunch will be provided.

Alder River turkey supper

BETHEL — A turkey supper will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Alder River Grange, 1895 Intervale Road.

Cost is $8 for adults, $3 for children under 12, and free for all military.

Soup, chowder, movie night

OXFORD — A soup and chowder night will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Hosanna Church, 109 Schoolhouse Road.

The movie “Home Run” will be shown and there will be a separate movie for children 12 and under.

There is no cost.

Chinese auction at OHCHS

PARIS — A Chinese auction will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, 256 Main St.

Doors open at 11 a.m.

Items include Thirty One, Scentsy, Origami Owl, Coach, Mary Kay, themed baskets, gift certificates and more.

Tickets are $10 for 25.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and a dollar table for items valued over $100.

A separate raffle for a 4 x 10 foot stamped concrete walkway, valued at $900, from Big Dawg Concrete will take place. Tickets are three for $10.

A food sale will include chili, chop suey, hot dogs, veggies, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, soda, bottled water and more.

All proceeds will go toward the funeral expenses of USMC veteran Perry G. O’Neil.

Swingin’ Bears dance is Nov. 9

PARIS — The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club will hold its next Saturday night dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Nov. 9, at the Oxford Hills Middle School, 100 Pine St.

Marty VanWart will be the caller for the evening calling mainstream and plus; Bernie Porter from New Hampshire will cue the rounds.

Refreshments will be served at intermission. There will be door prizes and a 50/50 drawing.

Admission is $6 per person. Non-dancers are welcome at no charge.

PARIS — A holiday Chinese auction will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at VFW Post 9787, 58 East Main St.

Viewing will start at 3 p.m.

The lunch counter will be open.

Weekly dances at American Legion

PARIS — Dances will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 9, 16, 23 and 30, at the American Legion Hall, 12 Church St. Music will be provided by the Jones Dance Band. Cost is $5.

World’s Fair membership meeting

WATERFORD — The annual membership meeting for Waterford World’s Fair Association will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Waterford Town Office Community Room.

All past and present members are welcome. There will be an election of three directors positions and the slate of officers for president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.

There will be light refreshments after the meeting.

The first supper for the Waterford World’s Fair will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Waterford Congregational Church on Route 5. The menu is Dana’s famous baked stuffed haddock with potato, vegetable, drink, bread and a slice of homemade pie.
