LEWISTON — Museum L-A and the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College are collaborating on exhibitions to mark Veterans Day and the roles and contributions of local people and industry. The project is being held in conjunction with “Salute to Current Military Men, Women, and Veterans” to be held Sunday, Nov. 10, at the Colisee.

The Franco-American Collection at USM LAC will exhibit images and memorabilia from local Franco-American veterans in an exhibit entitled “Sous les Drapeaux: Under the Colors.” The exhibit will focus on the stories of selected local veterans who served in conflicts from World War One to Korea, and will explore themes of identity and patriotism among the Franco-American community.

Museum L-A’s exhibition will focus on a small section for WWI followed by a great focus on the WWII exhibit. The exhibit at Museum L-A will be open from 12-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8-9, and Monday, Nov. 11. The Veterans Day hours are timed to follow the L-A Veterans Council’s “Pass and Review Musical Tribute to Veterans” ceremony at the Armory.

Veterans with ID will be admitted to the 2013 Museum L-A exhibit free of charge during the special hours on all three days. Regular admission fees apply to non-veterans. For more information, call 207-333-3881 or email info@museumla.org.

The exhibit at the USM LAC will be on display at the Franco-American Collection at USM LAC from Nov. 12 through Dec. 30. Admission is free. The Franco-American Collection is open Monday-Thursday, 9-4 (closed Veterans Day), and is at 51 Westminster Street. For more information, email franco@usm.maine.edu or call 207-753-6545.
