LIVERMORE FALLS — A petition drive to request a vote recount of the defeated administration budget has come up short of signatures.
Voters opposed raising $197,861, which is $32,695 more than the 2012-13 budget, for town administration, 260-258, on Nov. 5. It was the third time it was rejected by residents since June. The budget is higher due to the treasurer/town clerk position being moved from elected official to administration.
Resident Wayne Knowlton said it was more difficult than he expected to get the 53 signatures needed for a recount. The 53 signatures represent 10 percent of the voters that cast ballots on the article last week.
He obtained 35 and submitted the petition Tuesday, a day before the deadline.
Selectmen will take up the failed budget at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the Town Office.
