Bottle drive to benefit food bank

MECHANIC FALLS — American Legion Riders Post 150 will hold a bottle drive to benefit the Tri-Town Food Bank from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Nov. 17.

Donations may also be dropped off at Dad’s Place Redemption Center Tuesday through Sunday.

Pick-up of donations is available by calling Lori Hart at 577-7620.

Students to sweat alphabet and dance digits

LEWISTON — Adriane Kramer from Girl Power Fitness will visit a fourth-grade class at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15,  at Montello School to do Bokwa Fitness as a reward for students earning 200 Monty feathers (schoolwide behavior incentive program).

The class will also expose them to the new group fitness program that is spreading across the globe. It is not really a dance workout — there is no choreography and no counting steps. Participants draw letters and numbers with their feet while moving together to music in free form rhythm.

VFW post to present awards

LEWISTON — The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the Lewiston Armory. All officers and members are encouraged to attend.

Following the meeting, awards will be presented to Lewiston High School Junior AFROTC students who completed the VFW Voice of Democracy essays.

Employees group to hear speaker

LEWISTON — The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association Chapter 1804 will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Ramada Inn. A social hour will be followed by lunch at noon.

A federal Blue Cross/Blue Shield representative will speak and answer questions about the 2014 Blue Cross/Blue Shield coverage.

Attendees are asked to bring unwrapped toys for donation.

Lake Auburn center meeting Tuesday

AUBURN — The Lake Auburn Community Center (LACC) will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Community Room, Androscoggin Bank, 683 Minot Ave.. The public is welcome.

The LACC property is a public access point near Lake Auburn at 115 North Auburn Road, with parking, restroom and picnic area. It serves access to hundreds of acres of passive recreational trail use from sunrise to sunset daily, including the Whitman Spring Road Trail, owned by the Lake Auburn Watershed Protection Commission.

The center has received planning board approval for beach sand volleyball, outdoor skating and group and corporate events up to 13 vehicles. Ride sharing is encouraged.

Legion post to hold turkey raffle

LEWISTON — American Legion Post 22 will hold its monthly meeting and annual turkey raffle at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Senior Citizens Room, Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. Auxiliary Unit 22 will meet at 5:15 p.m.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and a light lunch will be served by the Auxiliary.

Membership dues for 2014 can be paid.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Seniors’ pinochle play standings after 10 weeks are: N. Bissonnette, first place, with 40 wins; D. Brackett and C. Letourneau, second with 37 wins; P. Jalbert, third with 35 wins.

Most washes: N. Bissonnette, first with 5 wins; C. Letourneau, second with 4 wins; S. Agurkis and D. Brackett with 3 wins.
