I heard that Paul Violette, the former executive director of the Maine Turnpike Authority, was released from prison early. He embezzled over $150,000 from the MTA. Reportedly he paid back the money.
What shocked me is that he will still receive his state pension of $5,000 a month.
Where is the justice?

Editor’s note: In 2012, after Violette was convicted, the Legislature enacted a law that allows the forfeiture of public employee retirement system benefits if a person is convicted of a crime connected with public employment or public office.
