1916 – 2013
AUBURN — Lauria C. Marineau, 97, of Auburn, died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 29, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, with her daughter by her side.
She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 10, 1916, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Louise (Vallee) Maltais, and was a resident of this community all her life. She was educated in Lewiston schools. She was employed for 33 years as a stitcher in the local textile industry, until her retirement in 1979.
Lauria enjoyed cooking, sewing and traveling with her second husband, Gerard. She especially enjoyed family gatherings during the holidays.
She is survived by two daughters, Louise Bernier and her husband, Lionel, of Lewiston and Jeannine Dupuis and her husband, Thomas Layton, of Prosper, Texas; seven grandchildren, Donald Bernier and his wife, Lorraine, of Lewiston, Richard Bernier and his wife, Jane, of Minot, Todd Hutchins and his wife, Carrie, of Cumberland, Michelle Riggle and her husband, John, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Monique Walker and her husband, James, of Portland, Edward Dupuis of New York and Stacey Spawn of Alpharetta, Ga.; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Florian Dupuis, who died in 1978; her second husband, Gerard Marineau, who died in 1997; one son, Joseph Dupuis; a stepson, Robert Marineau; a granddaughter, Rita Bouchard Bernier; three sisters, Yvette Deraps, Cecile Chasse and Marguerite Marineau; and a brother, Ernest Lessard.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Schooner Estates, whom referred to Lauria as “Memere” and the Androscoggin Hospice House for the wonderful care they gave to Lauria.
