RANGELEY — The 10th annual Mountain Holly Days sponsored by the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce will be held Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 12-15, in the villages of Rangeley and Oquossoc. Participating businesses will offer special discounts, including discounts on gift certificates, promotional items, drawings, refreshments and dining specials.
New this year will be the reintroduction of a Men’s Shopping Night on Thursday, Dec. 12, where area stores will offer special services such as extended evening hours, purchase advice and gift wrapping to help the gentlemen complete their holiday shopping. A special feature of this evening will be a beer tasting provided by Sebago Brewing Company at the Saddleback Guest Services and Touch the Wild Nature Photography on 2501 Main St., Rangeley.
On Friday, Dec. 13, SnowSource will host a bonfire and free marshmallow roast at Haley Pond Park from 5 to 8 p.m. with the Rangeley Lakes Regional School PTA again offering the family favorite horse-drawn wagon rides.
Hot cocoa and refreshments will be provided and donations for the wagon ride are appreciated. Also on Friday night, starting at 7 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, the Rangeley Community Chorus will hold its annual Christmas concert.
The three days of special Mountain Holly Days shopping run Friday through Sunday with extended hours, discounts, refreshments and an opportunity to qualify for one of three drawings.
Childcare for all ages with crafts, games and activities will be available at Little Mountain School on 2 High St. on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations for this service will be accepted.
On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Rangeley Fire Department will host its annual Children’s Christmas Party from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Rangeley Fire Department, 15 School St. There’ll be pictures with Santa, toys for the children to choose from, homemade cookies and other treats, and a craft table.
Free face painting is offered at SoJo’s Studios on 22 High St. from 2 to 4 p.m. and the Rangeley Lakes Builders Supply will hold a Duck Tape Crafting Workshop for children 7 years old and older at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Demonstrations will be given and a small fee for materials will be asked if a craft is made at the workshop.
The 6th Annual Parade of Trees on Saturday, Dec. 14, sponsored by the Rangeley Rotary Club and Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce, will be held at Saddleback Mountain starting at 5 p.m. A full buffet dinner with music and dancing is scheduled.
Decorated full-size and table top trees and wreaths created and donated by local businesses are full of special surprises to be auctioned off throughout the evening. All proceeds from the auction benefit the programs of the Rangeley Rotary Club and the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce.
New this year will be a nonprofit silent auction. Area nonprofits will have an opportunity to place goods and services for bid to benefit their causes with a portion of the proceeds also going to the Parade of Trees fundraiser. Early ticket purchases are recommended for this popular event and are available at the Chamber or from a local Rotarian.
The long weekend events end with the 35th annual Walk to Bethlehem sponsored by the Rangeley Friends of the Arts. Gather at the Rangeley Inn at 5:30 p.m. to stroll through the Rangeley village singing Christmas carols, church to church, in search of “a place to stay.” The Church of the Good Shepherd is the final stop for the community celebration featuring local groups in music and dance performances ending with the Christmas story and live performers of the shepherds, wise men, angels, Mary, Joseph and the baby. All are invited to a dessert reception following the evening performances.
