United Parcel Service will purchase 10 acres of land at the Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport for $400,000 to construct a distribution center, if a final contract is approved, officials said Sunday. Kenneth P. Wolf, chairman of the airport’s board of directors, said the Louisville, Ky., shipping firm has agreed to purchase the industrial land to replace a distribution center in Lewiston. Wolf said the airport site will allow the carrier to take advantage of a proposed 1,500-foot runway expansion, enabling UPS to combine land distribution with cargo jet service.
