NORWAY — An evening of music and poetry accented by coffee and refreshments will be on tap at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at the Norway Grange Hall on Whitman Street.

Several local performers, as well as students from the University of Southern Maine’s School of Music, will entertain guests. Coffee, water and treats will be offered during the performances.

This Coffee House is free to attend, but donations will be accepted for the nonprofit “Papa’s Boots” mission. “Papa’s Boots” was established in October 2011 when Bruno “Papa” Leino, a lifetime resident of Harrison, suddenly passed away.

As Papa’s grandchildren mourned his loss they all recalled that at every Christmas he would say, “There are so many presents under the tree and there are kids out there without boots.” To honor their grandfather/great-grandfather they immediately went to work and collected enough money by Christmas to purchase 22 new pairs of boots for children in Harrison.

In 2012 they bought 45 pairs of boots. In 2013, 66 pairs of boots were delivered to people in and around Harrison, S. Paris and Auburn. Boot sizes and genders of the children are collected, then the boots are bought at Lamey-Wellahan at a discounted price, sorted and delivered before Christmas.
