1940 – 2014

LEWISTON — Gayle L. Vail, 73, of Lewiston, died unexpectedly on Monday morning, Feb. 24, at Marshwood Center.

She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 7, 1940, a daughter of the late John D. and Isabella (Ramsay) Loring, and was a resident of this community all of her life. She was educated in Lewiston schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1958.

Gayle was employed as a waitress for both Happy Jack’s Restaurant and Marco’s Restaurant, until her retirement. She married Earl Vail on July 24, 1991, and he died on Feb. 25, 2000.

She was an avid reader and loved all animals. Everyone who knew Gayle was touched by her kind and generous personality.

Gayle is survived by her daughter, Michelle Jones, of Frisco, Texas; two sisters, Nancy Janelle and her husband, Roland, of Lewiston and Janice Loring Littlefield of South Portland; one brother, Donald Loring, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Jamie Sue Jones, who died in August 1973.
