Copenhagen blue, or copen for short, tango, rose, Reseda green, wisteria, and plumcot — these are the last words as to spring colors, and everything under the sun as to wearing apparel comes in these shades. No finer assortment of suits, coats, waists and separate skirts in all of these up-to-date colors and in the very latest styles can be found this side of the New York market than at Abbott Bros. Company, Lewiston. Upon this you will agree when you attend the spring opening, Wednesday and Thursday.

A flash fire broke out in the fourth floor stitching room at the Air-Tred Shoe Co. factory on Main Street. Auburn, this morning, but it was soon under control. Auburn Fire Chief J. Coleman Miller said the entire Auburn fire department responded when a box alarm was sounded from inside the factory. He said that a light bulb broke near where a female employee was at work cementing uppers and “there was just enough vapor from the fresh cement to set it off.” The chief said no one was injured, but the girl “got out of there fast.”

The School Committee at its meeting Wednesday night voted to authorize preliminary design work on plans to replace the roof at Lisbon Elementary School. The roof has been leaking and is badly deteriorated, Superintendent Richard Ladner said, explaining that preliminary work must be completed as soon as possible so that work can be done during the summer when there are no classes. The cost of replacing only the roof is estimated to be $250,000; however, if it turns out that asbestos is present, the cost could run into an additional $170.000. The new requirements are much more thorough, he explained, and will probably require some removal of asbestos, which “will hopefully be paid for by the state,” he added.
