AUBURN — Velma Russell, 86, left this world in the same fashion that she lived her life, quietly and at peace, after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, March 20.
She will be remembered for her loving demeanor and the importance she put on family above all else. She was born on August 6, 1927, in Danforth.
Velma is survived by her friend and sister-in-law, Lorraine Russell of Lewiston; her nephew, Scott Russell and his wife, Pamela, and family; her very special great-niece and godchild, Melissa Bell (York) of Millinocket; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Velma was predeceased by her brothers, Aubry Russell of Danforth, Delmar Russell of Danforth, and Lawrence Russell of Danforth; her parents, Adelbert and Adelia Russell of Danforth; her sister, Elsie Butterfield of Molunkis; and her lifelong friend, Pauline Fortier of Greene.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Austin and the amazing staff of the Hospice House in Auburn, as well as the staff of Androscoggin Home Health for keeping Velma in comfort and her final days filled with compassion and dignity.
