LEWISTON — A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Leonard A. Machowski was celebrated by the Rev. Aaron Damboise on Monday morning, March 24, at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul of the Prince of Peace Parish, following prayers at the Pinette Dillingham & Lynch Funeral Home.
At the beginning of Mass, Leonard’s three sons, Andrew, James and Paul Machowski, draped their father’s casket with a white burial pall signifying the Baptism of their father’s new spiritual life with God in Heaven. During Mass, Leonard’s brother-in-law, Frank Lawrence, presented a reading from the New Testament. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Leonard’s three sons, Andrew, James and Paul Machowski. Bearers were Andrew, James and Paul Machowski, as well as Nate Marcoux, Diane Lawrence and Richard Bergeron.
Following a funeral procession to Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta, Catholic Chaplain Paul Brennan recited committal prayers. The U.S. Navy Honor Detail then played taps and presented our country’s flag that had flown over the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor Bay, Hawaii, to Leonard’s wife, Rosemary, in recognition of her husband’s 21 years of service. At the conclusion of services, all were invited to a reception of fellowship at the Ramada Inn in Lewiston.
