1916 – 2014

LEWISTON — Florian J. Roy, 97, of Lewiston, died on Sunday, March 30, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Shenley, Quebec, on Oct. 4, 1916, a son of the late Xavier and Lumina (Gaulet) Roy and was a resident of this community all of his life. He was educated at Brothers of Sacred Heart of St. Peter’s School, attended Lewiston High School and graduated from St. Dominic Regional High School.

He married the former Beatrice Turcotte on April 7, 1945; she died on May 5, 1999. Florian served in the 103rd Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed for 34 years as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, until his retirement in 1978.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 22, DAV Emilien Hamann Post of Lewiston, Senior Citizens, Horizon 55 and Covenant 50, and was a very active parishioner of Holy Family Church. Florian was loved and will be greatly missed. His courage was inspiration to his legacy.

He is survived by his loving companion and caregiver, Elisabeth Michaud, of Sabattus; one daughter, Joan Culpovich and her husband, Anthony, of Lewiston; three sons, Laurier Roy and his wife, Regina, of Orrs Island, Daniel Roy and his wife, Sheryl, of Raymond, N.H., and Paul Roy and his wife, Diane, of Wales; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, with one on the way; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by seven sisters and five brothers.
