LEWISTON — Canadian pianist,

, will headline the program on Saturday, April 19, at the Franco Center, 46 Cedar Street, when he presents the fifth concert in the 2013-2014 Piano Series season. Also appearing will be the young pianist, Justine Pelletier. The recital begins at 7:30 p.m., and will feature works by Bach, Chopin, Liszt, and Ravel.

The career of Briere, 38, has taken him to all parts of Canada, as well as to the United States, Europe, and Asia. In 2004, he was chosen as one of the eight most promising pianists of the younger generation in North America by the Toradze Piano Institute at Indiana University. He left home – Ascot Corner, Quebec, just east of Sherbrooke – at age 17, to study at the University of Montreal, then at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, followed by graduate study at Indiana University. He has taught at the University of Montreal since 2004.

A native of Montreal, Pelletier won the piano competition of Canada’s National Music Festival in 2007, while still an undergraduate at the University of Montreal. She began playing the piano at age 5, and since giving her first public concert on Radio Canada at age 9, she has performed many times on radio and television. She was soloist on three occasions at Montreal’s Place des Arts with the McGill Chamber Orchestra, and also performed as soloist with the Orchestre de la Francophonie and the Montreal Symphony.
