1931 – 2014

SCARBOROUGH — Josephine M. “Jo” Gaccetta, 82, of Plymouth Road in South Portland, died Tuesday, April 8, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

She was born in Rumford on Aug. 26, 1931, a daughter of Dominic and Clorinda (Ciccarelli) Gaccetta. She graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1949, and attended Westbrook Junior College.

Jo went to Washington, D.C., to campaign for Jim Oliver and then worked for Ken Curtis while he was secretary of state. When Ken became governor of Maine, Jo was his personal secretary and served as the governor’s secretary in the executive branch for many years.

She was a communicant of Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Portland.

Jo is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews whom she adored, and was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
