RUMFORD – The Rumford United Methodist Church will host its semiannual chicken pie supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 26, to benefit the Imagine No Malaria organization.
The cost is $9 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under, Pastor Carol Stevens said Friday. Church members make the pies.
Stevens said the church has been hosting chicken pie suppers every spring and fall for as long as she can remember.
“Normally, our proceeds go into the church’s general fund,” she said. “This year, we decided to do something different with the money we raise.”
The church has been involved with Imagine No Malaria for several years. This year it challenged other Methodist churches throughout the United States to raise money for the campaign.
The campaign’s goal is to end deaths from malaria in Africa by raising money for its prevention, treatment and education.
“The overall goal of the group is to completely eradicate deaths by malaria,” Stevens said. “It’s an all-encompassing program. There was a time when the campaign would only raise money for nothing but bed nets, but it has since branched out to improving education on malaria and raising money for treatments.”
Those who attend the supper can also donate money to Imagine No Malaria.
