READFIELD — The Descendants of Maine, an outstanding new New England bluegrass band with strong family ties to early Maine, New Hamshire, and Rhode Island bluegrass legends, will perform at Maranacook Community High School on Saturday, April 26. The Descendants feature Bill Thibodeau, son of Maine bluegrass pioneer Sam Tidwell; Herman McGee, who played for many years in White Mountain Bluegrass with his parents, Mac and Hazel; Gary Pomerleau, son of fiddler Joe Pomerleau; and Rob Ravlin, son of a New Hampshire country singer. The younger Thibodeau was a Maine bluegrass star for many years, but now makes his home in Rhode Island. The other three Descendants live in New Hampshire.

The host band will be the Maranacook String Band, a youthful band that was formed at Maranacook High School in 2010. The band features the stellar singing of 19-year-old Julie Churchill and 18-year-old Lee Stetson, plus the instrumental virtuosity of mandolinist Dan Simons and fiddler Max Silverstein, plus the songwriting of bandleader Stan Keach.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults; $5 for students; free for children 8 and younger. Refreshments will be sold. The show will benefit Friends of the Maranacook Health Center. For reservations or information, call 207-397-2241.
