1941 – 2014
AUBURN — Ashley Lee Rowe, 72, of Mechanic Falls, passed away at the Hospice House on Monday, April 14, after a two-year battle with cancer.
He was born in South Paris on June 17, 1941, a son of Silver Ashley and Reta Culleton Rowe. He attended school in Mechanic Falls and in 1960, entered the U.S. Navy. After being discharged in 1964, he met and married Julianne Fickett.
Lee held various jobs throughout his life, including journeyman burner man and electrician’s helper, and worked in plumbing and heating.
He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and running about on his riding lawn mower. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and going to camp in the summer. Lee was always repairing something, and was really good at taking things apart and figuring what was wrong, then putting them back together.
He became a member of the American Legion 43 years ago and served with dedication in many of its offices, including county and district commander, post commander and adjutant, as well as as chaplain for 10 years. He was also a member of the 40 & 8, becoming Grand Chef de Gare du Maine in 2011-2012.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Julie; his sons, James and wife, Lisa, John and wife, Lisa, and Andrew and wife, Dawn; grandchildren, Ben, Meghan, Brandon and Cheyenne; and a brother, Dale Rowe, of Topsham.
He was predeceased by his brother, Charles; and his sister, Joanne Bailey.
