The Lisbon Planning Board has granted Miller-Hydro Group permission to fill in the old hand-dug canal at the Worumbo Mill. A mountain of rock and gravel, estimated to be about 20,000 tons, will be pushed into the canal. It will take about 25,000 tons of material to fill in the whole canal. The Planning Board added the following conditions to the permit: that the filled-in area be covered with loam and seeded and that the area that will be exposed after the debris has been moved is to be made inaccessible. This to be done on each end of the canal to be sure it is blocked permanently. Miller-Hydro may be asked to come back before planners for approval of their final plans on blocking both ends.
