Just when you find a fun place to have a drink, dance and let loose with your friends, it closes. Nightclubs and bars have come and gone over the years, but a few, like Club Texas on Center Street in Auburn, have managed to stand the test of time.

Lance Robinson, manager of Club Texas, says the key to the club’s success and longevity is variety and consistency. People have come to expect quality entertainment and that’s what he and assistant manager, Brent Worrey, say they continue to get.

“There’s something for everybody,” said Worrey.

“Having multiple rooms with multiple genres of entertainment, that’s huge,” said Robinson. “Somebody can come do line dancing, then go do some karaoke then dance to a hip-hop DJ. What a night.”

Owned by Jim and Rhonda Hart, and originally a country nightclub, the entertainment theme of Club Texas has changed but the name has stayed the same.

“We attract all types. You’ll see people from 21 to 81 here,” said Robinson. “We have a huge demographic.”

Open three nights a week until 1 a.m., Club Texas entertainment starts on Thursdays at 6 p.m. in the club with country line dancing instruction, then beer pong and DJ B-set at 9:30p.m. In the pub the fun begins at 8 p.m. with DJ Scotty Dawg or Paul Hershey.

Fridays and Saturdays are live entertainment nights with Friday’s focus predominantly on local music. Saturday offers cover bands and national tribute acts, and DJ B-set is in the pub both nights. During the summer, Sundays offer all-ages shows like the CKY show held on Jun. 14.
For bands, the incentives to play Club Texas range from a courteous, accommodating staff – “It’s a crazy, fun staff,” says Worrey – and one of the best lighting and sound systems for a bar in the state, to a spacious venue that can accommodate a larger crowd than many other area clubs.

Crowds vary based on entertainment offered, Robinson says, so they also try to bring in bands that have a larger price tag and might not frequent this area otherwise, as well as novelty events.

There is a $3 cover charge most nights, though depending on the live act it can be $5 or $7. Don’t feel like dancing? There’s beer pong, pool and during the summer months there’s bikini bull riding.

“We’re not just country anymore. There’s a little bit of everything,” said Robinson.

The bar teams up with area businesses like L-A Harley, Port City Photography and After Hours Boutique for special events and offerings, as well as benefit dances and fundraisers. During the off hours, the space is rented out to businesses and individuals for anything from holiday parties to wedding receptions.

And to ensure safety, Robinson notes that they over-staff. “Everything is bigger in Texas,” he said.
