BANGOR — Two men were stopped at Bangor International Airport security checkpoints over a five-day span when Transportation Security Administration officers detected firearms in their carry-on luggage.
On May 16, TSA personnel detected a firearm in a man’s carry-on luggage as he passed through security, the TSA said in a statement Thursday.
On Wednesday, security detected another firearm, which was tossed around in the man’s clothing as his suitcase passed through an X-ray machine, the TSA said.
The names of the men were not released.
In both cases, Bangor police was contacted by the TSA, as city police have officers patrolling the airport. Police responded and confiscated the weapons in both cases.
Weapons are not permitted in carry-on luggage according to TSA regulations but can be transported in checked bags if they are not loaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
Airport director Tony Caruso praised the efforts of the TSA.
“This shows that they certainly are doing their jobs here in Bangor,” Caruso said. “This proves that they’re doing what TSA needs to do.”

It was unclear if either man was charged.
