Norman L. Porter
1920 – 2009

FRANKFORT, Ind. — The Rev. Norman L. Porter, 89, of Frankfort, Ind., died Aug. 14, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community.

He was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Brewer, the son of the Rev. Lawrence D. and Geneva (Horn) Porter. He married Barbara Pulsifer on July 4, 1942. He held degrees from Taylor, Colby and Boston universities. He also was involved in many civic organizations throughout his career.

He was a retired United Methodist minister after 42 years with the New England Conference. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Bayonet Point, Fla., for 20 years, finally coming to Wesley Manor in 2006.

He was executive secretary of the Preachers Aid Society, past two time master of the Masonic Lodge, of which he was a 50-year member and was a past Rotarian.

Survivors include his wife of Frankfort, Ind.; two daughters, Winona Adams and husband, Rick, of High Point, N.C., and Elaine Witherbee and husband, Gary, of Noblesville, Ind.; two brothers, Maurice Porter of Williamsburg, Va., and Glendon Porter of Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren, Karen, Mike, Andrea, Kristin and Jon; and 10 great-grandchildren.
