1927 – 2014

AUBURN — Elmond R. “Al” Jewett, 86, of Lewiston, died Thursday, June 12, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

He was born in Newport, Vt., on Aug. 22, 1927, a son of the late Edward and Permiller Corrow Jewett. Al served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by General Motors in Syracuse, N.Y.

He enjoyed bowling, line dancing and country music. Al was a member of the American Legion Post No. 153 of New Auburn and the New Auburn Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife, Marie M. Morin Lagasse, of Lewiston; two stepdaughters, Anita Kramarz and husband, Gary, of Lewiston and Norma LaChance and husband, Michael, of Auburn; one stepson, Onile Lagasse and companion, Priscilla Miller, of Auburn; eight step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Marjorie Wilcox and companion, Bud Gracer, of Constantia, N.Y., and Joyce Sweeting of North Syracuse, N.Y.; a brother, Theodore Jewett and wife, Sally, of Syracuse, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Neva; his parents; a sister, Margaret Doughty; and six brothers, Dale, Robert, Lawrence, Maurice, Martin and Harlow.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Lamp Residential Care Facility and the Hospice House for the kind, gentle and comforting care they provided during the past few months of Al’s life.
