PCMF is well known locally, regionally, and nationally for its outstanding performers and imaginative programming. Highlights of this season’s programs include the following:

Aug. 16: An evening of chamber music featuring harpist Bridget Kibbey, a frequent guest of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center;

Aug. 21: A tribute to the legacy of cellist Marc Johnson, former cellist of the Vermeer Quartet, who passed away this spring;

Aug. 23: A concert hosted by Suzanne Nance, popular former host at Maine Public Radio, featuring a work by Josh Newton. Newton is the winner of PCMF’s seventh international Composers Competition and a graduate of the University of Southern Maine.

Performances throughout the festival will feature major works by Elgar, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi, Brahms, Copland, and Stravinsky.

The festival will include the PCMF’s annual free children’s concert on Sunday, Aug. 17. Artistic Director Jennifer Elowitch and cellist Claire Bryant have designed an engaging, interactive program geared to children ages three to six. The noon concert will be preceded by special activities in the Abromson Center lobby starting at 11 a.m.

Making their PCMF debuts this summer are violinist Kristin Lee, a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center; violist Jonathan Bagg, a member of the faculty at Duke University; composer Harold Meltzer, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Music; and composer Nathan Shields, winner of a 2014 Charles Ives Fellowship.
