Fitzgerald and his wife, Anacleta, have for the past 20 years lived a bi-continental life, dividing their time between Norway, Maine and the remote barrio of Simayung on the Philippine island of Luzon.

“My Philippine Adventures” is a humorous account of his experiences adjusting to life with the not-quite-Eastern, not-quite-Western Philippine people. Being married to a Filipina was an asset in many ways, but full cultural immersion brought him many unexpected, often hilarious surprises. Strange food and indecipherable social rules were only the beginning.

“I am no stranger to foreign travel,” said Fitzgerald. “In my careless youth I explored many of the seedy establishments along the Mediterranean coast courtesy of the U.S. Navy. But full cultural immersion without a net was something I had not experienced – especially in a ‘developing’ country. It sounded like an adventure.

“Over the years I have kept a journal, an as-it-happened account of my encounter with the mysterious ways of the Philippine barrio.”

Fitzgerald and his wife are long-time residents of Maine where they have operated a specialty sign business for the past 22 years. Each year before the snow flies, they make the long trek to their tropical hideaway in the Philippines where Anacleta reconnects with her family and Peter spends his time writing.
