1919 – 2014
AUBURN — G. Claire Sundeen, 95, of Farmington, died on Wednesday, June 18, at the Hospice House.
She was born on April 20, 1919, in Raleigh, N.C., a daughter of Edwin and Grace (Liljegren) Olson. After the death of her father in 1925, the family moved to Worcester, Mass., where her grandfather served as minister of the Harlem Street Baptist Church. She graduated from Becker Secretarial School.
On Sept. 27, 1941, she married Earl Sundeen, of Worcester, Mass. They moved to Rochester, N.Y., and then to Honeoye, N.Y., where they raised their family of three children. She was employed at the University of Rochester as a secretary in the history department.
Claire was active in scouting, local theater, the PTA and the United Church of Christ in Honeoye. In 1986, she moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she lived until 2005, when she relocated to Farmington.
She is survived by two sons, Daivd Sundeen and his wife, Nancy, of Maple Grove, Minn., and Robert Sundeen and his husband, John Sowinski, of New York City, N.Y.; one daughter, Donna Wheeler and her husband, Stan Wheeler, of Farmington; grandchildren, Eric Sundeen and his wife, Sarah, Abigail Wheeler and Kyla Wheeler; great-grandsons, Nolan Sundeen and Sullivan Sundeen; stepgrandchildren, Kim Simon and Wade Miller; stepgreat-grandchildren, Brynne and Chase; a sister, Evangeline Tappin, of Manchester, N.H.; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1980 and a grandson, Todd Sundeen.
