NORWAY — Healthy Oxford Hills, a project of Stephens Memorial Hospital, along with several state agencies and Maine casinos are working to help people who have a gambling problem sign up for self-exclusion.
A person can self-exclude by signing an agreement to not enter a casino for a period of one to five years or a lifetime. At Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, Central Registration staff are there to help anyone who wishes to sign up for self-exclusion between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Most people gamble responsibly, but some can become addicted to gambling and that can cause major problems with work, family and finances. Self-exclusion is an opportunity for people whose casino gambling has become a problem to regain control by limiting their access to Maine casinos.
Before the new sites were open, the only place a person could sign up for self-exclusion was at a Maine casino. Additional sites make it easier for people to sign up for self-exclusion without entering the place they are trying to avoid.
If you think you may have a gambling problem, dial 2-1-1 or visit www.211maine.org. For more information on Maine’s self-exclusion program, including the locations to self-exclude, visit www.maine.gov/selfexclusion.
If you are in the Oxford Hills area and would like to discuss self-exclusion and consider completing paperwork, stop by Stephens Memorial Hospital, 181 Main St., or call Healthy Oxford Hills at 739-6222 for more information.
