FARMINGTON — A Farmington woman was injured Saturday afternoon when she went off Academy Street, over a lawn and through a hedge, hitting a power grid box in front of Emery Community Arts Center.
Mary Sampson, 90, had just made a left-hand turn on to Academy Street from High Street at 1:52 p.m. when she went to hit the brake and accidentally stepped on the gas, Farmington police secretary Rachel Heseltine read from officer Bridgette Gilbert’s report.
She plowed up onto the lawn of the Farmington Public Library, went down over a bank and through a hedge. Her 2006 Nissan sedan then struck the Central Maine Power box, Heseltine said.
Sampson received lacerations to her face, she said. She was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by a NorthStar ambulance.
There was no damage to the electrical box located on the campus of the University of Maine at Farmington, but the concrete pad it sat on was moved, she said.
Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue responded to help at the scene.
