LEWISTON – Walter and Deanie Harris of West Columbia, S.C., are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Laura Harris of Athens, Ga., to Matthew Bechard of Athens, Ga., son of Edward and Kathryn Bechard of Crestview, Fla.

Miss Harris is the granddaughter of Adrianna Harris and the late Walter E. Harris Jr. of Lexington, S.C., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Abbie Ziegler of Cayce, S.C. She is a graduate student at the University of Georgia, where she is working toward her doctorate in genetics.

Mr. Bechard is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Bechard Sr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. George V. Woodsome Sr. of Lewiston. He is a graduate student at the University of Georgia, where he is working toward a doctorate in biochemistry.

A July 28 wedding will take place at the Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church in West Columbia, S.C.
