GREENE — Downeasters, Maine’s largest all-male barbershop harmony chorus will perform at 2 p.m. and 7 pm. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Sawyer Memorial.
The Downeasters are one of 62 chrouses included in the Northeast District of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Singing in America which includes chapters from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, and extends to parts of Canada.
The Downeasters were chartered in January 1949. From the beginning, the Downeasters have enjoyed competition and had their share of success. As a chorus, the group scored in the top 10 in the Northeast District more than once.
