MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. — The Kohl’s Department Stores’ Kohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program honors nearly 200 volunteers with $1,000 scholarships toward higher education. James Humphrey III, 8, of Gray was chosen from more than 37,000 nominees nationwide for making a positive impact in his community.

Motivated to help individuals with cancer, Humphrey created Coloring Out Cancer, a group that sells homemade paintings, drawings and other crafts to raise funds for the Patrick Dempsey Center for Hope and Healing.

To date, Humphrey, with help from his sisters, has raised more than $3,500 and donated art work for display at the organization.

Winners are chosen based on initiative, leadership, generosity and project benefits and outcome.
