JAY – Bernard (Barney) and Rolande Purington of Jay recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
They were married on June 25, 1956 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Chisholm. Mr. Purington’s parents are the late Norman and Elizabeth (Fitzpatrick) Purington of Lewiston, and Mrs. Purington’s parents are the late Roland and Adrienne Fournier of Livermore.
A surprise party was held on June 10, hosted by their seven children, Ron of Jay, Jim and his wife, Barb, of Livermore Falls, Roland and his wife, Reta, of Rumford, Jeff of North Jay, Ken of Belleville, Ill., Chris and his wife, Tasha, of Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, and Kathy of Farmington. All ten of their grandchildren were present, Cassandra, William, Leanne, Jayde, Nathan, Ashley, Megan, Morgan, Lisa and Emily.
The couple renewed their wedding vows, officiated by the Rev. Roger Chabot of St. Rose of Lima Church. Ironically, Rev. Chabot has known the couple for more than 40 years, as they were neighbors at camp on Canton Lake.
Mr. Purington is a retired high school teacher from Jay High School and is a self-employed accountant. Mrs. Purington has been an Avon sales representative for over 20 years.
Siblings of the couple attended from Florida, Arizona, Maine and New Jersey.
