PARIS — The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club had an overwhelming attendance at its 50th Anniversary Dance at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in South Paris in August.
Around 200 attended to square dance and listen to Tim Marriner, a national caller from North Carolina, and to round dance with Carol Arsenault from Dresden cueing.
The club began its 51st season with three free lessons in square dancing for beginners and for those who need a refresher course. Ray Hilton, club caller, will be the teacher.
The first lesson was held Sept. 3, with upcoming lessons at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 10 and 17, at the Oxford Hills Middle School cafeteria, 100 Pine St. Club members will be there to dance with the beginners.
Lessons will be from 6:30 to 7:45. From 7:45 to 9 p.m., club members will workshop learning the next level of square dancing called “plus.” Admission is $4. This will be the charge for beginners, also, after the first three free lessons
Square dancing is for all ages. It is great for families and singles. It is a great way to relax and have fun as well as to meet people and make new friends.
