Commercial Travelers dinner meeting

LEWISTON — Twin City Council 160 of the United Commercial Travelers of America will hold a dinner meeting at Davinci’s at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.

Senior Citizens Cribbage League

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Sept. 4 were: first, Roger Labbe; second, Diane Torres and Dennis Gosselin; third, Arnie Burgess and Steve Agurkis; fourth, Joan Pettengill and Bob Allen; fifth, Bert Chenard and Roger St. Pierre.

Play will continue every Thursday promptly at 9 a.m. Pinochle players are also welcome to join activities every Thursday at 1 p.m.

Fall herb class, Roots for Detox

LEWISTON — The fall herb class on Roots for Detox will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, with herbalist Jane Kuntz and Mary Penner, NP, at The ARK, 791 Lisbon St.

What is a spring and fall detox? How important is it to detox? How often should we do it, and can we do our own detox program? Learn the value of bitters. Select herbs for the liver like dandelion, burdock and yellow dock; herbs for the kidneys like parsley root and gravel root; herbs for the lungs like pleurisy root and elecampane; and herbs for the lymph like red root and poke root.

‘Maine At Work’ play performance

BUCKFIELD — The Zadoc Long Free Library and the Maine Humanities Council will sponsor a free performance of David Greenham’s play “Maine At Work” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Performing Arts Room at Buckfield Junior/Senior High School.

The play weaves together humor and little-known historical facts about working in Maine, and it also raises questions about the nature of work today, especially the challenges and rewards facing workers in many rural Maine communities.

LEWISTON — An information session on Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at St. Mary’s Hospital, 99 Campus Ave.

This community information meeting is for anyone suffering from food obsession, overeating, under-eating and bulimia.

Free conference for vets, family

FARMINGTON — Bringing Worlds Together, a free conference for military veterans, family/community members and service providers will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at University of Maine, Farmington.

Keynote speaker will be Kayla Williams,  Arabic linguist and military intelligence, who wrote the books, “Love My Rifle More Than You. Young and Female in the US Army” and “Plenty of Time When We Get Home, Love and Recovery In the Aftermath of War.”

The featured speaker, Robert H. Moore, is a board-certified traumatologist.

Schellinger Music Fest planned

POLAND — The first Schellinger Music Fest will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Poland Town Hall, 1229 Maine St.

The evening will include folk, gospel, pop and traditional music featuring Just4Folks, Seagrass Two and a guest fiddler in celebration of local violin maker Joseph H. Schellinger (1838-1926).

Admission is $7. Seniors pay $5.

Items needed for church food pantry

AUBURN — The Auburn United Methodist Church is requesting the following items that are need on a weekly basis at the High Street Food Pantry: peanut butter, toilet paper and pasta sauce.
