FORT KENT — No charges are pending after a wayward automobile tire crashed through the window of vacant Main Street building owned by a Fort Kent police officer early Saturday morning.
According to Dana Thibeault of the Fort Kent Police Department, Alshane Linton, 21, a student at the University of Maine at Fort Kent from Connecticut, was traveling west on Main Street just after 12 a.m. Saturday when he slowed to make a left turn into the parking area of an apartment complex.
As he made the turn, the left front tire and wheel hub assembly on his 1999 Honda sedan came off the car, rolled across the street and through the window of the former Shoes to Boots store before coming to rest inside.
That building is owned by Officer Dalen Boucher, Thibeault said.
Damage to the building is estimated at $1,500, and Linton’s car had about $2,500 in damages because the tire damaged the front fender as it came loose.
Thibeault, who assisted the student and his passenger, fellow UMFK student Neon Brown, 22, of Trinidad, in mounting the tire after locating the tire’s lug nuts in the road, said Linton indicated he’d had the car serviced a few days earlier at a local garage.
There were no injuries reported.
