1928 – 2014
AUBURN — Annabelle “Belle” Underwood, 86, of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Turner, passed away peacefully at Clover Manor on Tuesday, Sept. 23, following a long period of ill health.
She was born on Feb. 6, 1928, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Edwin and Ann Wideen. Following her graduation from East High School, Belle worked for 11 years as a legal secretary for Harris & Brant.
She was active in Glenwood Moravian Church, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir.
On July 1, 1951, she wed George Warren Underwood at that church in Madison, Wis. George graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1957, and began a very successful career in the cosmetic industry. Annabelle was a great support to her husband throughout his career. During this period of time, they lived in Minneapolis, Minn.; Appleton, Wis.; Chamblee, Ga.; Raleigh, N.C.; Park Ridge, N.J.; and Tampa, Fla.
Vacationing throughout the U.S., Europe and the Caribbean was a special pleasure for Belle and George. Tragically, George died unexpectedly in 1981.
Belle was a lifelong and avid Green Bay Packers fan and attended a number of their games in Green Bay during the 1950s. She was also a big fan of the New York Yankees and especially of Derek Jeter. She enjoyed fast, sporty cars and owned many throughout her life.
The joys of her life were her daughter, Marsha, and her two grandsons, Brandon and Justin. Together they shared many wonderful times at “The Beach House,” on adventurous vacations and during countless competitive games of canasta. She was an extremely generous woman to those she loved. Belle was a strong-willed, opinionated and independent woman, with a fine sense of style. She remained feisty and full of humor until the end.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Graham and her husband, Rob, of Turner; grandsons, Brandon Haines of Clinton, N.Y., and Justin Haines of Pittsburgh, Pa.; nephews, Kenny Zerbel of DeLand, Fla., and Bob Roser and his wife, Kathy, of Cummings, Ga.; as well as many other nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Mikki Brown, of Orlando, Fla.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Underwood; sisters, Jane Roser Godwin and Dorothy Zerbel Foreyt; and brothers, Robert and Renald Wideen.
Her family wishes to thank the staff at Central Maine Medical Center, Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and the Belfast unit at Clover Manor.
