LEWISTON — Once again this year, the Center for Wisdom’s Women will sponsor a free flu shot clinic. This year’s clinic will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. The clinic is co-sponsored by the USM/LA college nursing program and the community health program at CMMC. Sign up at the center.
Nursing student interns are at the center and available for health consultations every Thursday morning when school is in session. They will teach a health and wellness class on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The next Peasant Pantry Cafe is set for Friday, Oct. 31, and will feature zuccae fageoli, pumpkin and beans. Cultures around the world have one dish sustenance meals that are affordable, easy to prepare and are healthy.
Each monthly “Peasant Pantry” meal comes from a different country and is served in a single dish with a piece of bread or fruit and a simple dessert. Recipes will be made available so the meal can be cooked and shared later at home. Call for a reservation, then attend between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Donations are requested to cover the cost.
The center has two other special events planned in October. On Friday, Oct. 3, a Community College intern at the center, Fatna Bougataia, will host a special “Tea, Talk and Travel” program. She will talk about her home country of Morocco with a focus on how they celebrate the Muslim holy day of Eid-al Adha. There will be an opportunity to sample some special foods.
The annual Halloween Party will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30. Attend with or without a costume for food, games and prizes.
For those who like to cook, at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, join Christine, who will teach a bread-making class.. There will be a soup-making class on the morning of the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The What’s Cooking?” class will gather at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21. This month each item will include pumpkin. A group will cook chili on Tuesday, Oct. 28, and and corn bread on Thursday, Oct. 30, for the Halloween party.
Art and craft programs will include painting and decorating small gourds Saturday, Oct. 4, and the Art Van on Wednesday, Oct. 22, both at 10 a.m.
A color Zentangle (fancy doodling) sessions is set for 12:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27. Rebecca will teach beginner crochet at 12:30 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 9 and 23.
The Book Club continues using the classic by Richard Bach, “Jonathan Livingston Seagull.” The group will meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, with Ann Auer leading the discussion.
Rebecca Libby from CMMC Human Services will be present at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, to share simple hints on how to present yourself in an interview.
The weekly writing workshop with Pat Gardiner continues at 10 a.m. each Monday. The monthly Playing with Poetry class offered by Kathryn Tracy is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21. The time includes experiencing poems through reading and writing.
Regular end-of-month activities include the clothing give-away on Thursday, Oct. 23. Support for family caregivers is available at 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and a weekly Al-Anon group meets at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The BLT group for Bisexual, Lesbian and Transgendered women and their friends or family meets this month on Thursday, Oct. 23.
