EUSTIS — Members of the sister Stratton-Eustis and Lac-Megantic, Quebec, Lions Clubs commemorated their 60-year relationship Saturday with a gathering of more than 110 members from 15 clubs.
The reunion, remembrances and entertainment included music, a magician and horseshoes.
Presentations were made by International Director Yves Leveille to Canadian District U 4 Gov. Michel Daragon, Maine District 41 Gov. Steven Johnson, Lac-Megantic club President Jerome Poulin and Stratton-Eustis club President Neil Iverson.
A special recognition was given to George Komery, 93, a charter member of the Lac-Megantic club.
Stratton Plaza owner and Lions Club members Jeff Brickley and Jen Pelkey presented a cash donation to the Lac-Megantic club for continued reconstruction of the town that was devastated by an oil train explosion in July 2013.
Saturday’s celebration was topped off by fireworks, a re-dedication to each other and the promise of additional commitments to be two countries “united in service.”
